Label / history
Benanti's winemaking began in the late nineteenth century, when Giuseppe Benanti, great-grandfather of the current owner of the same name, planted vineyards near Viagrande on the slopes of Mount Etna. The family made wine for many years. The company entered its most successful period after Dr. Giuseppe Benanti took ownership in 1988. He began by studying the local soils and native grape varieties. The winery introduced modern winemaking methods for traditional grapes, and within a few years released several distinctive wines expressing the character of the terroir. The company follows environmentally responsible winemaking principles and puts the quality of its vineyard work first.
