Label / history
First released in 1875, this was Bertani’s first wine. In the early twentieth century, it received a Royal Warrant from the Italian royal family.
Bertani was founded in the mid-nineteenth century in Quinto di Valpantena, north of Verona, by the brothers Giovanni Battista and Gaetano Bertani. Their involvement in wine began after meeting Mr. Guyot, a prominent figure in the wine industry at the time. From the outset, they adopted new techniques in viticulture and winemaking and were the first to sell their wine in bottles rather than in the oak barrels customary at the time. In 1888, the Academy of Agriculture, Arts and Commerce in Verona examined their work from scientific and practical perspectives and presented them with a special gold award.
The estate now covers 130 hectares around the family’s historic eighteenth-century villa. Its cellars and winery are in Grezzana.
