Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Vigna Vecchia 1A, one of Campo alla Sughera’s representative crus, planted on alluvial soils in Bolgheri. The vineyard is trained to spurred cordon at a density of 9,500 vines per hectare. Anima di Arnione grew out of detailed estate zoning intended to identify the parcels and micro-terroirs capable of reaching their fullest expression. Fruit from the selected sites is vinified separately to preserve each parcel’s identity.
Grapes
The 2021 is 100% Merlot. Anima di Arnione is conceived as a varietal interpretation drawn from parcels associated with Arnione Bolgheri DOC Superiore and is made only in exceptional years.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into 15 kg crates. Vinification takes place in stainless-steel tanks for 20–25 days at controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine matures for 6 months in barriques and then for 12 months in amphora, combining structure and depth with clarity of expression.
Technical data
Toscana IGT. The limited release comprises 1,000 individually numbered 0.75 L bottles.
Tasting profile
Intense ruby red. The bouquet is fresh and complex, with enveloping cherry and plum aromas and a sun-warmed character. The palate has a velvety texture, fine tannins and a persistent finish.
Vintage notes
The 2021 growing season began with a mild winter and a steady spring, followed by a warm yet balanced summer. Cool nights supported even ripening. This is the third release of the project.
Label / history
The project was created as a tribute to Arnione Bolgheri DOC Superiore, the estate’s stylistic and philosophical reference wine. Its inaugural 2019 release followed extensive zoning work designed to capture the highest quality from individual estate parcels at their peak of expression.
