Vineyard and terroir

Arnione is assembled from the finest plots of Campo alla Sughera in Bolgheri. The plots are harvested and vinified separately. Their sandy-clayey, alluvial soils are planted at 9,500 vines per hectare, using spurred-cordon training.

Grapes

Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Exact proportions are not specified.

Vinification

The fruit is harvested manually into 15 kg crates. Individual plots are vinified separately for 20–25 days in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28–30 °C before the final blend is composed.

Ageing

Maturation lasts 18 months in French oak barriques and tonneaux, followed by at least 24 months of bottle ageing.

Technical data

Bolgheri DOC Superiore. Planting density: 9,500 vines/ha. Vine training: spurred cordon. Recommended serving temperature: 20 °C.

Tasting profile

Dense ruby red. The deep, complex bouquet brings together balsamic eucalyptus, bitter orange, black cherry and ripe strawberry, followed by Mediterranean scrub and spices. The palate is elegant, fine, structured and soft, with a savory dimension and a finish recalling ripe red fruit.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 20 °C. The wine suits slowly cooked red-meat dishes including salmì, peposo and braised meat, as well as grilled prime cuts. It also accompanies wild boar stew, baked duck and cheeses matured for long or very long periods.

Label / history

The name Arnione denotes the oval pieces of alabaster found underground along the Etruscan Coast. Their circular form inspired the symbol appearing on every Campo alla Sughera label.
