Vineyard and terroir

Pinot Noir comes from the hillside vineyard at Riccò di Serramazzoni. The best bunches are harvested by hand into crates and carefully protected from damage in transit.

Grapes

100% Pinot Noir.

Vinification

After soft pressing, only the free-run must, selected for its acidity and mineral character, is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Secondary fermentation begins in bottle in the spring after harvest and proceeds at constant temperature according to the traditional method. The wine is then disgorged and finished with liqueur d’expédition; the 2017 page summary gives 4 g/L of added sugar.

Ageing

Published maturation figures differ: the detailed description gives at least 60 months in bottle, the page summary gives a minimum of 48 months on the lees, and the technical sheet specifies 46 months at constant temperature.

Technical data

Alcohol: 12.5% vol. Available in 750 ml bottles and 1.5 L magnums.

Tasting profile

Golden yellow, with amber nuances in the page description. The broad, evolved nose combines yellow peach and apricot with spice; the technical profile adds orange peel, violet, blackberry, plum, currant and strawberry. The palate balances freshness and vinosity with creaminess, energy and elegance. Its finish is varied, aromatic and persistent, while its breadth and length point toward further evolution.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 8–10°C.

Vintage notes

The page summary identifies the 2017 vintage but gives the first week of September as harvest time; the detailed section and technical sheet instead give the last week of August. Product options list 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020.
