Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Casavecchia, an estate in the Chianti area acquired in 1998. Caspagnolo is produced there as a Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG.
Tasting profile
Officially published notes for the 2020 vintage describe fresh plum, blackberry and a light earthy character, with medium body, lightly firm tannins and a fruit-driven finish. A second assessment presents the vintage as youthful and fragrant, combining wet flowers with small red and black berries and subtle graphite; the palate is medium-full, streamlined, harmonious and juicy.
The 2019 vintage showed red plum, wild blackberry and sweet liquorice, followed by grapefruit juice and white-musk nuances. It was medium-full, structured and taut, with well-extracted tannins, progressive development and the capacity for several years of ageing.
Vintage notes
The 2018 vintage was described as focused, with dark cherry, citrus, spice, mahogany and vanilla, followed by a medium-bodied palate, fine tannins and a bright finish. The 2017 vintage combined blue fruit, pressed violet, blackcurrant and peppermint; it had good depth, a medium-to-full body and a fresh, fruit-led profile.
Label / history
Casavecchia joined the estate in 1998 as the Chianti property used for Caspagnolo and the Toscana IGT wines Tosco and Lavischio. The current Caspagnolo presentation was introduced with a new look in 2026. Its 2025 product image carries the Pomona emblem associated with the producer’s labels.
