Questo vino

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the high vineyards of Podere Casisano on the hills southeast of Montalcino. The site lies at 480 m and is well ventilated, with marked day-to-night temperature shifts. Spur-cordon-trained vines face southeast and grow on mixed-origin soils rich in stones and galestro. The wine is based on younger vines replanted when the estate began recovering abandoned vineyards in 2015. Natural vegetation is encouraged between the rows, invasive interventions are avoided, and the soil is periodically worked to aerate the subsoil.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese Grosso.

Vinification

Traditional maceration on the skins for 12 days.

Ageing

Eight months in Slavonian oak casks followed by six months in bottle. The relatively short maturation preserves an immediate, fresh expression of the vintage.

Technical data

Alcohol: 13.5% vol. Bottle size: 750 ml.

Tasting profile

Deep yet transparent ruby red. The complex bouquet evokes violets, plums and red berries with delicate spicy accents. Dry and balanced on the palate, with tannins and acidity in equilibrium; the finish is fresh and persistent.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C. The combination of freshness and structure is versatile with pasta or rice dishes in meat sauces, grilled red meats, Italian cold cuts and cheeses.

Label / history

The wine presents Rosso di Montalcino as a vibrant, fresh and accessible expression of Sangiovese for everyday drinking rather than simply a lesser counterpart to Brunello.
