Vineyard and terroir
Ripe al Convento comes from a small Sangiovese vineyard on the highest hills of Tenuta CastelGiocondo. The site lies at 450 m above sea level, faces south and receives the warm afternoon sun. Schistose, marly galestro soils and Mediterranean winds shape a Brunello Riserva intended to combine elegance, character and longevity. The estate was already producing wine during the nineteenth century.

Vinification
For the 2020 vintage, the grapes were picked by hand after careful selection in the vineyard. They were checked again at the winery, where the berries were sorted manually. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Frequent pumping over, especially early in fermentation, promoted the extraction of colour and structure.
Ageing
The wine matured in wood, gaining stability and greater aromatic and structural complexity. Further bottle refinement preceded release in the sixth year after harvest.
Tasting profile
The 2020 is clear, brilliant ruby red with garnet reflections at the rim. Its complex, intense bouquet moves through red and black fruits—currant, blueberry, morello cherry and cherry preserved in alcohol—alongside floral nuances. Tobacco, leather, white pepper and nutmeg emerge as tertiary and spicy notes. Ripe, compact tannins feel velvety and silky, integrate closely with the structure and balance the wine’s acidity and alcohol. The finish is exceptionally long.
Vintage notes
The 2020 season followed the replenishment of water reserves late in 2019 and began with relatively little winter rain. Those reserves helped the vines withstand higher temperatures from June through August. Budding occurred in the final days of March, while flowering began during the second half of May and proceeded evenly in warm, dry and lightly windy conditions. Dry harvest weather delivered healthy, fully ripe and structured grapes with ideal phenolic and sugar development.
