Vineyard and terroir
Feudi del Pisciotto lies on the island of Sicily, 7 km from the sea, between Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina. The estate has 40 ha of vineyards planted with local varieties, from Nero d'Avola to Frappato, as well as international varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet. The first vintage from the estate's new vineyard was 2007; the vines were still young, but every variety gave remarkable results.
Grapes
The blend combines two varieties, Nero d'Avola and Frappato, which give the wine its distinctive style and the warmth and strength of Sicily.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The winery can process up to 10,000 hectolitres and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Must and wine are moved into vats by gravity, a method considered especially suitable and efficient.
Ageing
The wine spends 10 months in oak barriques, 50% of them new, then matures for a further 12 months in bottle. Both old and new cellars are used for ageing at the estate.
Tasting profile
A wine with plenty of personality, capturing Sicily's bright, sunny character.
Label / history
Cerasuolo di Vittoria is Sicily's only DOCG appellation. The wine belongs to the Feudi del Pisciotto range, created by Paolo Panerai, who oversees the company, to bring the estate's wines together. Each label in the range is dedicated to a leading Italian designer and made in that designer's own style; this one is named for Giambattista Valli. Its label features a pearl necklace. Part of the proceeds from sales goes each year to charitable causes, including the restoration of Sicilian works of art and monuments. Feudi del Pisciotto is part of the Domini Castellare di Castellina group.
