Vineyard and terroir

The Riserva is made from the finest grapes selected across estate vineyards. Parcels from different sites are fermented and matured separately, giving the final blend a range of flavours and textures.

Grapes

95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot.

Vinification

Individual parcels ferment separately on their skins in small stainless-steel tanks, each monitored independently. Punch-downs and délestage are tailored to the needs of each must. All lots complete natural malolactic fermentation, half in stainless steel and half in neutral French oak, balancing roundness with fresh acidity.

Ageing

Maturation lasts 10 months in 15–30 hl oak casks and 225 L barrels, with new oak limited to 10%. A further 12 months of bottle maturation precedes release.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. Red-fruit aromas are joined by strawberry, citrus and tobacco. The same fruit-led character continues on the palate with earthy and spicy notes. Firm tannins are balanced by fresh acidity and good complexity, while the vigorous structure and body retain balance and elegance.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18–20°C with roasted red meats, game in rich sauces or aged cheeses.

Vintage notes

The 2022 season combined regular early vine development and successful flowering with intense summer heat, drought and accelerated ripening. August thunderstorms brought extensive hail, though careful vineyard management delivered good to excellent fruit from surviving plots. In 2021, April frost and summer drought reduced yields, particularly among young vines. Favourable September conditions enabled a late harvest of exceptionally ripe Sangiovese from older vineyards, offering complexity and elegance despite the small crop. Late rain complicated 2020, making vineyard location and exposure decisive; some sites produced elegant, fresh fruit with lighter tannins, while others retained spice, character and minerality.
