Vineyard and terroir

The grapes are grown in Maremma, Tuscany, where generous sunshine and well-textured, sandstone-rich soils give the Merlot a full, rich flavour. The Sangiovese grows on clay soils, which bring refined tannins and a long, lasting taste.

Vinification

After harvest the grapes are pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is held at a controlled 26–28 °C and, together with maceration, lasts 15 days.

Ageing

The wine spends 3 months on the lees in stainless steel tanks, then is bottled and aged for at least a further 2 months.

Tasting profile

Balanced and full of juicy fruit. The Merlot gives a full, rich flavour; the Sangiovese contributes refined tannins and a long, lasting finish.

Label / history

Cecchi is a family-owned Tuscan company, founded in 1893 by the wine broker Luigi Cecchi. It is now led by the brothers Cesare and Andrea Cecchi. The house does not make Super Tuscan wines; according to Andrea Cecchi, the family is traditional and prefers elegance and a long finish to wines weighed down by alcohol.
