Origins\nThe Cerbaiona estate dates back to the 17th century. In 1977 Diego Molinari, having fallen in love with the beauty of the area, bought the estate and began making wine there. He formally founded Cerbaiona in 1981.\n\n### Under Diego Molinari\nDiego Molinari, known as "the maestro," was responsible for the painstaking work behind the estate's wines for decades.\n\n### Sale and new ownership\nIn the autumn of 2015, at the age of 84, Diego sold the winery to a group of investors led by Gary Rieschel and American wine collector Matthew Fioretti, who became the estate's manager. At the end of 2015, Cerbaiona moved to organic viticulture.\n\n### Expansion\nIn 2017, the vineyard was expanded by 1.5 hectares, with Sangiovese vines planted on the steepest hillside below the estate.

Terroir
The vineyards lie northeast of the village of Montalcino, at around 400 meters above sea level, on clay and marl soils.
