Vineyard and terroir
The vines grow in vineyards in the Veneto region. The Colli Berici, the hills where the group's vineyards lie, are a series of ancient volcanic formations between Verona and Padua. The climate there is very mild and sunny, much like the Mediterranean, and grape growing has flourished in the area for thousands of years.
Vinification
After harvest the grapes are left to dry for several weeks to concentrate the sugar in the must. Fermentation is traditional, in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
Ageing
Part of the wine is aged in oak barrels.
Label / history
Cielo e Terra was founded in 1908. Its name combines terra, "earth", with Cielo, the surname of the founding family. In 1930, under Pietro Cielo, the company began expanding and improving its production. New vineyards were established in 1962, and output increased. The winery is now run by the fourth-generation brothers Luca and Pierpaolo Cielo. It owns around 300 ha of land and is one of the largest producers in Veneto.
Cielo e Terra belongs to the Gruppo Cantine Colli Berici (The Colli Berici Group of Cellars), which has around 4,000 ha of vineyards and where most of the company's wines are produced. With the support of the group's winemakers, the winery takes part in a project to improve the agricultural and production sectors of the Berici Hills, from vineyard to bottle.
