Label / history
The name “Maia” refers to one of the seven sister stars of the Pleiades. In an ancient tradition, Maia guided the sailors and farmers of Lake Garda in navigation and harvesting. Greek mythology identified her as the daughter of Atlas, the most beautiful nymph of the Pleiades, the lover of Zeus and the mother of Hermes. She represented destructive fire and was also regarded as the goddess of nature, the herald of spring, and a symbol of fertility and nourishment. The month of May was dedicated to her.
NovaPalma was the ancient name of a fortified Venetian city built in the form of a regular nine-pointed star, with each bastion designed to protect its neighbours.
