Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from the estate's vineyards on the volcanic hillsides of Colli Berici. The Berici Hills are a chain of ancient hills of volcanic origin between Verona and Padua. The climate is very mild and sunny, similar to the Mediterranean, and vines have flourished here for thousands of years. Chardonnay shows the benefits of this climate particularly well, and the wine stands out in Cielo's white range.

Vinification

The grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in neutral vessels.

Ageing

Ageing takes place in neutral vessels. The wine is best enjoyed young, while it is at its freshest, though it can be stored for 2–3 years.

Tasting profile

Light and refreshing, with a rich, velvety character.

Label / history

Cielo E Terra was founded in 1908. Its name combines terra, the Italian word for earth, with Cielo, the surname of the founding family. In 1930, under Pietro Cielo, the company began expanding and improving its production, and new vineyards were established in 1962, allowing production to increase. The winery is now run by the fourth-generation brothers Luca and Pierpaolo Cielo. It is one of the largest producers in the Veneto region and owns around 300 ha of land.

Cielo E Terra is part of Gruppo Cantine Colli Berici (The Colli Berici Group of Cellars), which has around 4,000 ha of vineyards, where most of the company's wines are produced. With the support of the group's winemakers, the winery takes part in a project to improve the whole production and agricultural sector of the Berici Hills, from vineyard to bottle.
