Vineyard and terroir
The Cabernet Sauvignon grows on sunny hillsides with ancient volcanic soils in the Colli Berici, where vines have been cultivated for more than a thousand years. The Berici Hills are a range of ancient volcanic hills between Verona and Padua. The climate is very mild and sunny, similar to the Mediterranean.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
Ageing
A short period of ageing follows fermentation.
Tasting profile
Young, bright and full-flavoured, with noticeable yet velvety tannins and a pleasant grip. The notes are of red berries and spices.
Label / history
The wine belongs to the "Cielo 1908" range of traditional Veneto wines, named after the year the Cielo family founded the winery. Cielo e Terra takes its name from terra, the Italian word for earth, combined with the founders' surname, Cielo. In 1930, under Pietro Cielo, the company began expanding and improving its production, and new vineyards were established in 1962. The winery is now led by the fourth-generation brothers Luca and Pierpaolo Cielo. It owns around 300 ha of land. It belongs to the "Gruppo Cantine Colli Berici" ("The Colli Berici Group of Cellars"), a group of Italian winegrowers with around 4 000 ha of vineyards, where most of the company's wines are made. With the group's winegrowers, Cielo e Terra takes part in a project to improve wine production and agriculture in the Berici Hills from vineyard to bottle.
