Label / history
Cielo e Terra was founded in 1908. The name joins terra, Italian for "earth", with Cielo, the surname of the founding family. In 1930, under Pietro Cielo, the company began expanding and improving its production, and new vineyards planted in 1962 allowed output to increase. The winery is now run by the fourth-generation brothers Luca and Pierpaolo Cielo. It owns around 300 ha of land and is one of the largest producers in the Veneto region.
The company belongs to Gruppo Cantine Colli Berici (The Colli Berici Group of Cellars), which has around 4,000 ha of vineyards where most of the company's wines are produced. With the group's winemakers, Cielo e Terra takes part in a project to improve winegrowing and production across the Berici Hills, from vineyard to bottle.
The Colli Berici are a series of ancient volcanic hills between Verona and Padua. The climate is very mild and sunny, similar to the Mediterranean, and grapes have been grown there for thousands of years.
