Vineyard and terroir
The Berici Hills are a range of ancient volcanic hills between Verona and Padua. The climate is very mild and sunny, similar to the Mediterranean, and vines have been grown there for thousands of years. Growers cultivate around 4,000 ha of vineyards in the area, which produces both D.O.C. and I.G.T. wines.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified in the traditional white-wine manner: gentle pressing, then temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless-steel tanks.
Tasting profile
Light, fresh, semi-sweet white wine, part of a range of easy, everyday wines.
Serving and pairing
Serve chilled.
Label / history
Terre Allegre is a range from Cielo e Terra. The estate was founded in 1908; its name combines terra, "earth", with Cielo, the surname of the founding family. Under Pietro Cielo the company began expanding and improving production in 1930, and new vineyards planted in 1962 allowed output to grow. Fourth-generation brothers Luca and Pierpaolo Cielo now run it. It is one of the largest producers in Veneto and owns around 300 ha of land. Cielo e Terra belongs to Gruppo Cantine Colli Berici, a group of cellars with around 4,000 ha of vineyards, where most of its wines are produced. With the group's winemakers it takes part in a project to improve every stage of wine production and agriculture in the Berici Hills, from vineyard to bottle.
