Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from selected plots in the provinces of Siena and Florence. The vineyards are situated at 350–400 m above sea level, with excellent exposure and limestone and clay soils interspersed with alluvial layers.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in late September. Maceration lasts two weeks with frequent pump-overs, followed by fermentation in neutral vessels at a controlled temperature of 25 °C.
Ageing
The wine rests for a period in the same neutral vessels, without oak ageing.
Tasting profile
Elegant and easy-drinking.
Label / history
The winery takes its name from an old Florentine family of noble origin. Its winemaking history dates to the 15th century, when Antonio Serristori, a senator of the Republic of Florence, married an heiress of Niccolò Machiavelli and received a farm with vineyards and olive groves in Sant’Andrea in Percussina as her dowry.
Conti Serristori is now part of GRUPPO ITALIANO VINI and owns 145 ha of vineyards extending from the heart of Chianti Classico to the historic part of San Gimignano. Chianti and the estate’s other Tuscan wines are vinified and aged mainly in its principal cellar, while Vernaccia is produced at the San Gimignano estate.
