Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from selected plots in the municipalities of Castellina and Radda, in the province of Siena. The vineyards lie on hills at 300–350 metres above sea level, on mixed soil types, with vines trained using the Guyot system.
Grapes
The blend is 85% Sangiovese Grosso.
Vinification
Harvest usually takes place in the first ten days of October, once the grapes are fully ripe. Traditional methods are used: a two-week maceration with frequent pump-overs, then fermentation in neutral vessels at a controlled 25 °C.
Ageing
The wine ages for 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by additional time in bottle.
Tasting profile
Elegant and complex.
Label / history
Conti Serristori takes its name from an old Florentine family of noble origins. Its winemaking history goes back to the 15th century, when Antonio Serristori, a senator of the Republic of Florence, married the heiress of Niccolò Machiavelli and received as her dowry a farm with vineyards and olive groves in Sant'Andrea in Percussina. The estate is now part of Gruppo Italiano Vini and owns 145 ha of vineyards, from the heart of the Chianti Classico area to the historic part of San Gimignano. Chianti and other Tuscan wines are vinified and aged in the main cellar, while Vernaccia is made at the San Gimignano estate.
