Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from two organically farmed plots within the historic Gattera vineyard, which covers more than 11 ha. The Nebbiolo vines are more than 50 years old.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in mid-October and macerated in stainless-steel tanks for 6–8 days. Fermentation lasts 10–12 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in small French oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine matures for 19–21 months in small French oak barrels.
Tasting profile
The old-vine fruit contributes depth, concentration and character.
Serving and pairing
When opened young, the wine should be decanted for one hour.
Label / history
Cordero di Montezemolo dates its history to 1920 and is based at the ancient Monfalletto estate, inherited by the Montezemolo family from the Falletti family. The family was growing grapes and making wine at its castle in Castiglione Falletto as early as the Middle Ages. The winery now owns 26 ha of vineyards in the Langa area.
