Vineyard and terroir

The Chardonnay comes from an organic vineyard in the lowest part of Monfaletto, in the municipality of La Morra. Planted in 1987 at 220 m above sea level, the vineyard faces east. Its hill receives the first sunlight of the morning and the last rays of the evening, giving it more sun than the surrounding slopes.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand from late August to early September. After destemming, they are gently pressed, and the must is settled before fermenting in stainless-steel tanks at 15–16 °C for one week. Malolactic fermentation takes place on the lees in oak barrels at low temperatures.

Ageing

The wine matures in oak barrels for approximately nine months, including one month on the lees, followed by about one year in bottle.

Label / history

Elioro derives from the ancient Greek words Elios and Oros, meaning “sun” and “hill”. The name pays tribute to the sunlit vineyard hill.
