Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in Veneto, northeastern Italy.
Grapes
Corvina and Rondinella form the main part of the blend, with small amounts of Oseleta and Croatina.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and placed on well-ventilated surfaces in special drying rooms. As they dry, their sugar levels rise and their juice becomes more concentrated; the length of this period varies by vintage. The dried grapes are then gently pressed and fermented.
Ageing
The wine ages in oak barriques for around two years.
Label / history
According to legend, Amarone originated accidentally during the production of Recioto: grapes were left to dry for too long, and the wine was forgotten in the fermentation room. The sugar fermented away, resulting in a bitter rather than sweet wine. The name is linked to the Italian word amaro, meaning “bitter.”
