Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese comes from the estate's youngest vines, on the stony slopes of Montalcino. The vines are warmed by morning and afternoon sun, which gives the wine its freshness and energy.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand. They ferment and macerate for a short 7–8 days in stainless steel vats, which preserves the full range of fresh aromas.
Ageing
The wine spends around 4 months in large Slavonian oak casks. The oak adds structure and softness without overpowering the natural fruit character. A final rest in bottle brings flavours and aromas into balance.
Tasting profile
Juicy, fresh and energetic, with a youthful, lively fruit character. It is a freer-spirited, less classically structured wine than Brunello.
Label / history
Leonus is made by the Cortonesi family as the younger sibling of their Brunello. Production is limited to around 20,000 bottles.
