Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from Ginestra, one of the crus of the Barolo region. The vineyards face south, on clay and limestone soils, which give grapes of rich, powerful character. The Conterno family has owned these vineyards for 150 years.
Vinification
The grapes are carefully sorted, destemmed, pressed and macerated. Fermentation is long and slow, with natural yeasts, in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine spends 24 to 30 months in 50 hl oak casks, then a further 6 months in concrete tanks before bottling. After bottling it rests 1 year in the cellar.
Tasting profile
The terroir character of the vineyards, and the experience passed down through generations, come through in the aroma and flavour.
