The wine matures for six months in French oak barrels.

Label / history

The name comes from the blazon, or written description of the coat of arms, of the ancient Socini family, Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s direct ancestors. “Leone rosso” means “untamed red lion” in Italian and refers to their symbol.

The Socini family built Fattoria del Colle in 1592. Five members of the family were heretics; Lelio and Fausto were outspoken opponents of Catholicism and were excommunicated. Church representatives confiscated the estate, which Donatella’s great-great-grandfather returned to the family in 1919.
