Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from Ronc di Juri in Buttrio. After Dorigo acquired the vineyard, planting density was increased several times to control bunch weight and influence flavour.

Grapes

The Friulano grapes are selected and sorted by hand.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand in two stages. The first harvest accounts for 80% of the wine; its fruit is pressed traditionally and fermented in barrels. The remaining 20% is harvested later and dried on reed mats for three weeks before pressing. Pressing is gentle and slow, with dry ice used to preserve the aromas. Both lots undergo malolactic fermentation and are blended a few days before bottling.

Ageing

The two lots rest for one year on fine lees in French oak barrels, with frequent bâtonnage. Approximately 20% of the barrels are new.

Tasting profile

Elegant.

Vintage notes

The 2019 winter in Friuli-Venezia Giulia was unusually warm and dry, prompting early emergence from dormancy. Cold weather subsequently returned, bringing heavy rain and substantial mountain snowfall. Cool, changeable conditions persisted through May, slowing the growing cycle, and flowering occurred in early June. July and August were hot and occasionally very hot, with little rain but cooler nights. The grapes ripened well overall, although yields were about 20% lower.

Label / history

Ronc di Juri means “Juri’s vineyard” and commemorates the family who once worked the land. Dorigo was founded in 1966, when new owners acquired Ronc di Juri in Buttrio and Montsclapade in Premariacco. They subsequently invested in vineyard machinery, fermentation barriques and reed mats for drying grapes.
