Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from a south-east-facing vineyard at 430 m in the Tramin-Söll additional geographical unit, on the Mendola massif west of Tramin. The broader area comprises terraces and steep slopes formed by glacial, alluvial and detrital erosion. Large differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures, the afternoon Ora wind and cool currents from Mount Roen shape the microclimate.

The product page describes soils rich in clay, limestone and dolomitic rock, while the 2025 technical sheet specifies clayey soil over a porphyritic substrate.

Grapes

100% Gewürztraminer.

Vinification

The berries are crushed and cold-macerated for six hours before pressing. The juice is clarified through refrigeration and natural sedimentation, then fermented in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 18°C.

Ageing

The young wine remains on its lees for several months in stainless-steel tanks.

Technical data

The 2025 has 14.00% alcohol, 5.1 g/L total acidity and 5.4 g/L residual sugar. It is bottled in 0.75 L format and has an ageing potential of 2–5 years.

Tasting profile

Bright, inviting golden yellow. The aromatic bouquet combines candied orange and citrus with honey, cinnamon and cloves. The palate is full and creamy, with pronounced spice and length.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 12–14°C. Pair with shellfish, crab, lobster, Asian dishes or blue cheese.

Vintage notes

The 2025 harvest started early, on 27 August, and concluded just over a month later. Early flowering was followed by a warm, dry June and a markedly cooler July that helped protect natural freshness and acidity. August brought favourable ripening conditions. Sunshine and occasional rainfall alternated during September toward the end of harvest, with healthy, balanced grapes reaching the cellar.

Beginning with the 2024 vintage, Concerto Grosso carries the Tramin-Söll UGA, emphasizing its connection to Tramin and to Gewürztraminer.

Label / history

The name Gewürztraminer is interpreted as “the spicy one from Tramin.” Concerto Grosso takes its name from the Italian Baroque musical form, reflecting the wine’s rich, Baroque-inspired style and its intended tribute to the home of Gewürztraminer.

The 2019 vintage received 94 points from Luca Maroni.
