Vineyard and terroir
Vigna Castel Ringberg is a monopole vineyard named after the Renaissance castle built by the Habsburgs in 1620. The property rises from Lake Caldaro toward the Mendel ridge through moderate and steep slopes at 330–400 m. Its higher sectors consist of approximately 30,000-year-old glacial Adige River gravel, while calcareous soils over morainic material and loose limestone occur lower down. Lake Caldaro moderates daytime conditions; cool evening breezes and the strong, dry southerly Ora wind refresh the vineyard. Yields are deliberately limited.
Grapes
100% Sauvignon.
Vinification
After clarification by refrigeration, part of the must ferments in stainless steel at 18 °C and remains in extended contact with the lees. The other 40% ferments in large oak vessels and French barriques. The components are assembled shortly before bottling.
Ageing
The steel-fermented portion matures in steel for ten months. Some bottle maturation follows assemblage and bottling.
Technical data
The 2024 has 13.0% alcohol, 6.6 g/L total acidity and 0.1 g/L residual sugar. Bottle format is 0.75 L, and the stated ageing potential is 3–5 years.
Tasting profile
Light, elegant straw yellow with green highlights. The restrained, inviting bouquet offers elderflower, mountain herbs, gooseberry and an Alpine freshness. Fruity fullness is joined by elegant structure, lively acidity and juicy minerality, finishing with distinctive harmony and length.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 12–14 °C with seafood, fish, pasta or vegetable dishes.
Vintage notes
The 2024 season began with an unsettled, rainy spring during flowering. A cool start to summer demanded careful vineyard work, while dry, warm and sunny weather in July and August supported even ripening. The resulting grapes showed balanced pH, acidity and sugar. Quantity was lower, but quality was considered excellent.
