Vineyard and terroir
The hilly vineyards lie at 230–260 metres above sea level and face east and southeast. Their alluvial soils are rich in sand, gravel and porphyry. The vines are trained using the Guyot system, are 10–20 years old and yield approximately 60 hl/ha.
Grapes
Lagrein. The variety is indigenous to Alto Adige and related to Teroldego and Syrah. Its characteristic profile combines dark colour and berry fruit with spicy, resinous nuances reminiscent of chocolate, tobacco and forest floor.
Vinification
The must and skins undergo an extended-contact fermentation in large wooden vats, designed to extract colour and fruit aromas.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in barriques.
