Storia
Foundation in 1890
Giuseppe Ferrando founded Ferrando Vini in 1890. He moved from Acqui to Ivrea with the aim of introducing Piedmontese wines to the neighbouring Valle d’Aosta.
Five generations
Wine production and trade have remained a Ferrando family activity for five generations. The business now operates as Società Agricola Ferrando SRL, with its address on Via Torino in Ivrea.
Terroir
The documented production area is Canavese in Piedmont. The landscape is presented as an area of environmental and historical significance, removed from heavily travelled tourism circuits.
Morainic soils characterize the documented Canavese Rosso production area. Ferrando’s Erbaluce vineyards are likewise identified with glacial-moraine soils.
Vinificazione
Harvesting is manual for both documented production areas. Erbaluce is picked from the end of September through the beginning of October, while the Nebbiolo and Barbera destined for Canavese Rosso are harvested in October. Cariola is made from a selection of the best Erbaluce grapes.
For Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG Cariola, selected Erbaluce grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, followed by maturation in bottle before release.
