Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie near the commune of Noto, at 80 m above sea level, with southern and south-eastern exposures. The soils are predominantly dense limestone, and the vines average 20–30 years old.
Vinification
The grapes undergo a relatively short maceration and a 25-day malolactic fermentation in stainless-steel vats.
Ageing
The wine matures for one year in French oak barriques, followed by a further year in bottle.
Tasting profile
Silky and vibrant, with an intense nose of blackberries, spices and dark chocolate. The palate is elegant, with rich, soft tannins and a long finish.
Label / history
The name Mahâris derives from “Al Mahres,” the name of a watchtower in a small Tunisian town on the Mediterranean coast. The wine was conceived as a meeting of different styles and cultures, combining Sicily’s traditional Nero d’Avola with international varieties given a Mediterranean character.
