Storia
Expansion into Sicily
After establishing his wine project in the 1990s, Antonio Moretti Cuseri began exploring territories beyond the family's original Tuscan base. This expansion took the family into Sicily, where he developed wineries in Noto and on Etna before those areas entered a period of wider recognition. Feudo Maccari forms part of this Sicilian chapter and faces the Vendicari oasis.
The next generation
In 2017, Antonio asked his son Amedeo Moretti Cuseri to help manage the family businesses. Amedeo first chose to gain experience outside the family organization, including work as European Operations & Business Development Manager at JamesSuckling.com. He became actively involved in the family businesses in 2019 and assumed responsibility as winery director and manager of the Italian market.
Antonio's other son, Alberto Moretti Cuseri, became increasingly involved in the family's wineries in 2018. His work encompassed creative development, projects, meetings, presentations and international travel; he subsequently took responsibility for exports and communications. Together, the brothers represent the continuation of the Moretti Cuseri family's wine activities, combining inherited values with a more contemporary approach to management and communication.
Terroir
Feudo Maccari is associated with the family's Sicilian wine activity in the Noto area. The estate faces the Vendicari oasis, placing it within a landscape also characterized by the tumuli mentioned in connection with the family's Sicilian properties.
Vinificazione
Organic agriculture is a cornerstone of the Moretti Cuseri family's wine projects. The family describes this approach as having been present from the beginning of its work in wine, with chemical products rejected in favor of organic inputs. Manual work is retained wherever possible, with the combined objectives of respecting inherited agricultural knowledge and reducing environmental impact. Alberto Moretti Cuseri describes all the family's vineyard land as organically cultivated.
Antonio Moretti Cuseri's broader production approach is built around specialist agronomic and oenological advice and a continuing search for quality, identity and a recognizable style. The family associates its work with craftsmanship, careful selection, experimentation, consistency and balance, while seeking to retain manual processes wherever practical and reduce environmental impact.
Filosofia
The Moretti Cuseri family presents wine as an activity rooted in an inherited attachment to land, vineyards and rural traditions rather than as a purely commercial enterprise. Its stated priorities include respect for tradition, craftsmanship, selection, experimentation, identity, consistency, determination and balance.
Antonio Moretti Cuseri's approach combines specialist agronomic and oenological knowledge with close attention to detail and a search for wines with a recognizable identity. Environmental responsibility is treated as part of this pursuit: the family's wine projects favor organic cultivation, avoidance of chemical products, preservation of manual work and reduction of their impact on the environment.
For the next generation, continuity does not preclude change. Amedeo Moretti Cuseri represents the connection between inherited traditions and a contemporary, internationally informed approach, while Alberto Moretti Cuseri emphasizes the transmission of the family's passion and values as something more fundamental than business strategy. Alberto's working principle is that quality depends on sustained effort every day.
