Label / history

Feudo Maccari grew out of a personal challenge taken on by Antonio Morreti, owner of the Sette Ponti winery. In 2000, on the advice of the oenologist Carlo Ferrini, he began buying small farm plots near Noto, in eastern Sicily, south of Syracuse. The estate that resulted now includes around 50 small vineyards. The plots were planted with the local varieties Grillo, Inzolia and Nero d'Avola, with vines 12 to 40 years old. The vineyards lie on gentle south- and north-facing slopes, a mile from the coast, at 70 m above sea level. Their "black" volcanic soils are rich in minerals, with a high proportion of lime and a little sandstone.
