Vineyard and terroir
The fruit is grown in Trapani at 200 metres above sea level. The vineyards face south and southwest and have limestone and clay soils.
Grapes
The blend contains equal proportions of Nero d’Avola and Syrah.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. Syrah is picked during the first ten days of September, followed by Nero d’Avola during the second ten days. Traditional red-wine fermentation takes place for 10 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at 24–26 °C, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for eight months in American oak barrels, followed by about six months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Approachable and easy-drinking, with rich, fleshy fruit notes.
Label / history
First released in 1991. The 2006 vintage received a gold medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in Los Angeles, and the 2008 vintage was included in Wine Spectator’s Top 100.
