Storia
Early 20th century The winery's roots go back to the beginning of the 20th century, when Luigi Biasiotto began making and selling his own wine. His sparkling wine became popular well beyond the local region. ### 1986 Foss Marai was registered as a trademark. The name comes from local dialect: fossi means valleys, and Marai is the deepest valley in Guia, considered one of the most prestigious areas for growing vines, enjoying strong sun exposure and good protection from the wind. ### A century after Luigi Luigi's grandson, Carlo Biasiotto, supported by his family, turned the local winery into one of the leading companies in the area. ### Today Foss Marai employs no more than 15 people across every stage of winemaking and sales. It is recognized as a brand for the quality of its sparkling wines and their bottles, and continues to develop new still and sparkling labels.
Terroir
Foss Marai is based in the small village of Guia di Valdobbiadene, surrounded by steep, vineyard-covered hills where winemaking goes back many centuries. The winery takes its name from the Marai valley, the deepest valley in Guia and considered one of the most prestigious areas for growing vines. The valley enjoys strong sun exposure and is well protected from the wind.
Vinificazione
No more than 15 people work across every stage of winemaking and sales at Foss Marai. The company follows three main principles: continually upgrading its equipment, carefully controlling every stage of production, and paying close attention to detail, all aimed at ensuring the quality of its wines. It continues to improve its wines and to develop new still and sparkling labels.
Filosofia
Carlo Biasiotto says his aim is simply to capture the grape in the bottle with all its aromas and flavors, without taking anything away or adding anything.
