Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco

25 cantine e 207 vini. Between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, fifteen communes in the province of Treviso make Prosecco on steep hillside vineyards. The hills are hogbacks — long, narrow ridges running north to south in the south of the zone and east to west in the north — with small streams in the valleys between. The Prealps shield them from cold air; the Venetian lagoon, 40 kilometres away, keeps them mild; and cool air sliding down the slopes at night gives the grapes the day-night swing they need. The soils are raised sea floor reworked by glaciers and rivers: sandstone and marl with bands of moraine and alluvium, draining steadily. Continua a leggere ↓

Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco in breve

The wine is made from Glera, with up to 15 per cent of the old local varieties Verdiso, Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera and Glera Lunga. It comes still, lightly sparkling or fully sparkling, and the Superiore di Cartizze, from a small historic subzone above Valdobbiadene, sits at the top. Yields stop at 13.5 tonnes a hectare, and vineyards planted since 2007 must carry at least 2,500 vines.

Prosecco from these hills was recognised as a DOC in 1969 and became the DOCG Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco in 2009. In 2019 UNESCO added the Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene to the World Heritage List.
