The estate lies near Montalcino. The vines are around 24 years old, and the fruit for the 2016 vintage came from several vineyards.
Vinification
Fruit from each vineyard was macerated and fermented separately in stainless-steel tanks for three weeks. The wines underwent malolactic fermentation before blending.
Ageing
The blend matured in oak barrels for 24 months, followed by one year in concrete tanks. The 2016 vintage was expected to reach peak maturity between 2020 and 2033.
Tasting profile
Juicy and inviting, with rich fruit flavours and an expressive aroma.
Label / history
Angelo Gaja acquired Pieve Santa Restituta in 1994. The estate dates to the seventh century and takes its name from the parish church of Santa Restituta; “pieve” means “church” in Italian. The church is a distinctive monument of medieval Christian architecture and art. The estate’s first Brunello di Montalcino was released in 2005.
