Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards on the hills of Piedmont, owned by the Gaja family, in Serralunga and Barbaresco. The vineyards lie low, which the name refers to.
Grapes
Traditionally made from Chardonnay. Since 2020 a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc, 5%, has been added to the blend.
Vinification
Selected bunches are gently pressed after harvest. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for 4 weeks.
Ageing
The wine ages in oak barrels for 6–7 months, followed by several more months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Bright and lively, with refreshing acidity and a lovely citrus aroma.
Label / history
The wine is named after Rossana (Rossi), Angelo Gaja's younger daughter. In Piedmontese dialect "bass" means "low", referring to the low-lying vineyards. The birds on the label are pheasants, which are plentiful in the forests of Piedmont.
