Label / history
Carlo Gancia was born in 1829 and spent several years in Reims learning Champagne production methods before founding his winery in 1850. He initially focused on Piemonte, believing its soils suitable for grapes intended for sparkling wine, and subsequently experimented with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In 1865, this work resulted in an Italian sparkling wine inspired by Champagne, identified in the source as the wine now known as Asti.
