Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from a small vineyard in the village of Canelli, at 660 metres above sea level. The site has southern and southeastern exposure and limestone soils. The vines were planted in 1979–1980.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand in August. Maceration lasts 14 days, and fermentation takes place in oak barriques. Oenologist Riccardo Cotarella consults on the wine’s production.

Ageing

The wine matures for nine months in 225-litre French oak barriques, half of them new. Following filtration and bottling, it rests in bottle for a further eight months.

Tasting profile

Rich and juicy, with tropical-fruit notes on both the nose and palate. Fermentation in oak contributes softness and a velvety texture.

Label / history

Piero Coppo founded the winery in Canelli, Piedmont, in 1892. His son Luigi later expanded its range to include still and sparkling Piedmont wines made from local grape varieties, modernised the winery and constructed an extensive series of cellars during the post-war period. The estate is now run by Luigi’s four sons—Piero, Gianni, Paolo and Roberto—who have introduced new winemaking methods alongside its traditional approach.
