Vineyard and terroir
Terziere di Levante comes from vineyards running along the sides of Vertine, a medieval village set at 350 m above sea level among the hills around Gaiole in Chianti. The clay-rich ground contains abundant marl, a friable rock that contributes mineral elements. Gaiole’s varied landscape gives this expression of Chianti Classico its forthright and spicy character.
Grapes
Sangiovese.
Vinification
The I Terzieri project employs microvinification and non-invasive oenological practices to preserve the distinctions between its commune-specific vineyards.
Ageing
Aged for 12 months in 50 hL Slavonian oak casks.
Technical data
Alcohol: 14%. Available in 0.75 L, 1.5 L and 3 L bottles.
Tasting profile
Bright ruby red. Black cherry, wild berries and blackcurrant shape the fruit profile, sharpened by black pepper. A generous tannic structure gives a juicy, intense palate, while tamarind-like freshness and gentle balsamic tones add lift and complexity.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C. Pair with game, grilled meats and aged cheeses.
Label / history
I Terzieri was introduced in celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico. Its three Chianti Classico wines interpret Sangiovese from Radda, Gaiole and Castellina, the three medieval divisions of the Chianti League. Established in the late fourteenth century, the League adopted the Black Rooster as its emblem. Levante represents Gaiole.
