Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from two crus: Podernovone, at 500 m above sea level, and Le Chiuse di Sotto, at 250 m. Their soils contain slate, limestone, clay and sand. Careful vineyard management maintains the vines’ vegetative balance.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into crates. Spontaneous fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures for 5–6 days, followed by 12–16 days of maceration at 32 °C to extract aroma and colour from the skins.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24–30 months in Slavonian oak casks of varying sizes and fill levels. The oak emphasizes its terroir character and adds structure.
Tasting profile
The wine combines finesse and richness with structure and elegance. It is complex and balanced, with aromas of ripe fruit and flowers.
Vintage notes
The 2020 growing season was quite hot, significantly reducing an already moderate crop. Vineyard management preserved the vines’ vegetative balance. Laura Brunelli chose not to produce a Riserva that year, directing the finest grapes into this Brunello instead.
Label / history
The label image, titled “Elvira in a Hat,” was created by economist and artist Richard M. Goodwin, a frequent guest at Osteria Le Logge and a close friend of Gianni and Laura. Elvira, Gianni’s mother, worked in the restaurant kitchen and became Goodwin’s muse. Her portrait now appears on Gianni Brunelli bottles, while the original hangs at the entrance to Osteria Le Logge.
