Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from “Le Chiuse di Sotto” and “Podernovone”. The plots at “Le Chiuse di Sotto” are at 250 metres above sea level, while those at “Podernovone” are at 500 metres. Their soils contain galestro, slate, limestone, sand and white clay, contributing elegance and strength to the wine.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand into crates at the end of September. Traditional spontaneous fermentation lasts 5–6 days, followed by about one month of maceration.

Ageing

The wine matures for 34 months in 25- and 30-hectolitre Slavonian oak casks.

Tasting profile

Harmonious and seamless, with a balance of power and finesse.

Vintage notes

In 2019, a dry winter was followed by spring conditions well suited to flowering. Temperatures rose gradually at the beginning of summer, and the growers took measures to protect the grapes from sun exposure. Early rainfall and only minor temperature fluctuations in August improved conditions. September was cool and dry, preserving healthy fruit and enhancing its aromatic character. The harvest was healthy and balanced, with moderate acidity.

Label / history

The Riserva is produced only in the best years. The label image, titled “Elvira in a Hat”, was created by economist and artist Richard M. Goodwin, a frequent guest at “Osteria Le Logge” and a close friend of Gianni and Laura. Gianni’s mother, Elvira, worked in the restaurant kitchen and became Goodwin’s muse. The portrait now appears on Gianni Brunelli bottles, while the original hangs at the entrance to “Osteria Le Logge”.
