Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the Felciaino vineyard, planted in 1986 and 2001. Yields are low, around 1 kg per vine, which gives the wine greater concentration and aromatic depth. The vines grow in alluvial soils with limestone, which drain well and help create a concentrated yet balanced flavour.
Bolgheri has a warm climate shaped by the sea and steady winds, helping the grapes ripen evenly. Warm days encourage sugar development and give a fuller flavour, while cool nights preserve acidity. The result is a balance of ripeness, freshness and structure that allows the wine to develop well over time.
Grapes
The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and ageing potential, Merlot softness and roundness, and Cabernet Franc aromatic complexity and spicy nuances.
Vinification
Harvest is staged. Merlot is picked in early September; the Cabernet grapes are picked later to reach full phenolic ripeness. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with native yeasts, to preserve a clear expression of the terroir.
Ageing
The wine is aged for at least 12 months in second- and third-use French oak barriques. This softens the tannins and adds complex notes of spice and leather, with subtle hints of wood.
Tasting profile
Rich, elegant and deep, with a well-defined structure, juicy fruit flavours and soft, rounded tannins. Notes of spice and leather, with subtle wood.
Serving and pairing
Suited to meat dishes and especially enjoyable in cooler weather.
