Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the San Stefano vineyard in Perno, within the commune of Monforte d'Alba. Owned by the Mascarello family since 1989, the site lies at 300 metres and faces southwest. Its soils consist mainly of clay and sand, with limestone, brown clay and grey sand of marine origin.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested during the first two weeks of October. Traditional vinification includes a fermentation lasting 15–20 days.

Ageing

The wine matures for 18 months in medium-sized oak casks.

Tasting profile

The 2008 vintage has aromas of red fruit and black berries. It is powerful and persistent on the palate, with berry flavours, hints of tobacco and dried flowers, and a pleasant finish marked by sweet floral notes.

Serving and pairing

The 2008 vintage was recommended for drinking through 2018.
