Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the organically farmed Coste vineyard in the province of Ragusa, on the sunny hills of the Iblean Mountains. The vineyard lies at 420 m, with eastern and western exposures. The temperate climate brings mild winters and dry summers, allowing the grapes to ripen in healthy condition. No fertilizers or chemicals are used.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in the second half of September and fermented.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in French oak barriques and tonneaux, followed by 12 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
With age, it becomes more mature, rich and deep.
Label / history
Gulfi was established in 1996 by Vito Catania and his family. The winery combines modern technology with traditional Italian winemaking methods. A large antique wine press stands on the approach to the estate and has become a historic landmark.
