Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the 2.5 ha Bufaleffi vineyard in southeastern Sicily, between Pachino and Noto. Its soils comprise black clay, white limestone and red sand. The area has a moderately hot Mediterranean climate.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand after 15 September and vinified immediately.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in 500 L barrels, followed by several more months in bottle in the Gulfi estate’s cellars before release.
Label / history
Gulfi’s story began in 1996 with Vito Catania and his family. The estate combines modern technology with traditional Italian winemaking methods and now owns 70 ha of organic vineyards in eastern Sicily. It produces six different Nero d’Avola wines. A large antique wine press near the estate has become a local historic landmark.
