Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Cascina San Anna, on a hill in La Morra once occupied by a mulberry grove. The 50-year-old vines grow on southeast-facing limestone soils. The estate uses organic and biodynamic methods, including green harvesting and a vine-pruning system selected to reduce yields and increase concentration.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in the first week of October and gently crushed. A long fermentation takes place at a controlled 32 °C, with maceration on the skins.
Ageing
The wine spends 18 months in new barriques.
Tasting profile
Harmonious and balanced, with a distinctive tannic structure that supports development in bottle.
Label / history
Surì di Mù is the Piedmontese name for the La Morra hill on which a mulberry grove once stood. The hill is depicted on the label. The 2008 vintage received the Corona award at the 2011 Vini Buoni d’Italia competition.
