Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese grows on steep slopes at an altitude of 400 m. The vines are often more than 50 years old.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand from the second ten-day period of October onward. Maceration lasts 20 days at 28–30 °C.
Ageing
The wine ages for 11 months in large casks known as tonneaux.
Label / history
The estate takes its name from the Grace family and a 19th-century windmill on the property. A sculpture of two men carrying a grapevine stands in front of the winery’s cellars, and the same image appears on Il Molino di Grace labels.
American businessman Frank Grace rediscovered the forgotten Volano vineyards near Panzano. With German banker Gerhard Hirmer, he revived the vineyards and built a modern winery over five years. Oenologist Franco Bernabei organised the winemaking.
